{"id":313,"date":"2016-07-13T10:59:59","date_gmt":"2016-07-13T10:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.magistrimediterranei.org\/en\/?post_type=portfolio&#038;p=313"},"modified":"2021-01-04T11:41:58","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T11:41:58","slug":"sanchez-marquez-carles","status":"publish","type":"portfolio","link":"https:\/\/www.magistrimediterranei.org\/en\/item\/sanchez-marquez-carles\/","title":{"rendered":"S\u00e1nchez M\u00e1rquez, Carles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_three_fourth  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  el_before_av_one_fourth  avia-builder-el-first  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h1 class=\"pos-title\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">S\u00c1NCHEZ M\u00c1RQUEZ, CARLES<\/h1>\n<div class=\"pos-summary\">\n<div class=\"element element-textarea first last\">\n<div class=\"pos-description\" style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 1.5; display: inline !important;\">\n<div class=\"element element-textarea first last\" style=\"display: inline !important;\">\n<h3 style=\"display: inline !important;\">BIOGRAPHY<\/h3>\n<p>Carles S\u00e1nchez (Ph.D., Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona) is Professor of Medieval Art History in the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona\u00a0and the UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educaci\u00f3n a Distancia).<\/p>\n<p>He holds a doctorate\u00a0in the <em>organization of Romanesque&#8217;s cathedrals workshops <\/em><em>of the 11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 12<sup>th \u00a0<\/sup>in Spain<\/em>, mainly focused on architects, sculptors and masons, supervised by Prof. Dr. Manuel Casti\u00f1eiras (Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona).\u00a0 Previously, he submitted a Thesis for a master degree on\u00a0Romanesque sculpture in Navarre and the Crown of Aragon.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2014, he\u00a0was awarded with an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship to support research in the context of the\u00a0<em>Santiago Cathedral Project. <\/em><em>The fellowship is <\/em>provided by The Complutense Foundation and the Barri\u00e9 Foundation, in collaboration with the Santiago Cathedral Foundation, the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard and the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (IPCE). The project was focused on the study of the <em>Relationship between the sculpture of the Portal of Glory and the Mediterranean (Barcelona, Pisa, Provence). <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since 2011 he has been working as a researcher and coordinator of the project\u00a0<em>Encyclopaedia of Romanesque Art in the Iberian Peninsula.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>The research was\u00a0carried out by the\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3n Santa Mar\u00eda la Real (FSMLR) &#8211; Centre for Romanesque Studies, which conducted the main research for the recovery and\u00a0dissemination of archaeological heritage. He collaborated in the Encyclopaedia\u2019s volumes regarding Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida and Girona, with more than 50 articles. He is general coordinator of the UAB&#8217;s research project\u00a0<em>Artists, Patrons and Audiences. Catalonia and the Mediterranean (11th-15th centuries)\u00a0\u2013MAGISTRI CATALONIAE<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>(HAR2011-23015), managing the\u00a0<em>Index Magistri Cataloniae<\/em>, a digital database of Catalan medieval artists and workshops. He also takes part in the new research group MAGISTRI CATALONIAE, of the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona, in association with the Departament d&#8217;Art i Musicologia (UAB).<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0coordinated the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B2_c18CTtwNaeDFaT2RqcVp3d1U\/view?usp=sharing\"><em>I Magistri Cataloniae International Symposium<\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B2_c18CTtwNaeDFaT2RqcVp3d1U\/view?usp=sharing\">:<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Artista an\u00f2nim, artista amb signatura. Identitat, estatus i rol de l&#8217;artista en l&#8217;art medieval&#8221;, which was organized by the research project Magistri Cataloniae and the Museu Episcopal de Vic (2014). In addition,\u00a0he has collaborated in the organization of several exhibitions such as <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B2_c18CTtwNaWkVGb3hfWUhLblU\/view?usp=sharing\">&#8220;Pintar fa mil anys. Els colors del Rom\u00e0nic&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0(31 May-14 December 2014), which was organized by the Museu Episcopal de Vic\u00a0with the collaboration of the research project MAGISTRI CATALONIAE, the CETEC-patrimoni (IQS-UAB) and the Centre de Restauraci\u00f3 de B\u00e9ns Mobles de Catalunya. Recently, he has been part of the Organizing Committee of the exhibition <em>The Episcopal See of \u00c8gara <\/em>(5 June 2015 \u2013 28 February 2016).<\/p>\n<p>His researches focus on the study of Romanesque Art \u2013 artists, sculpture, mural painting and Romanesque portals\u2013, as well as in the Pilgrimage to Saint James and the <em>spread of<\/em>\u00a0<em>St Nicholas\u2019 cult in the Iberian Peninsula. <\/em>\u00a0He has presented their research results in various conferences held at the Scuola Superiore Normale of Pisa (<em>Index Magistri Cataloniae. <\/em><em>Artisti tra anonimato e firma nella Catalogna e nel bacino Mediterraneo<\/em>), Perpignan (<em>L\u2019anonymat et la signature des artistes dans la Catalogne et le bassin m\u00e9diterran\u00e9en<\/em>) and Barcelona (<em>Marginalia, exempla i temes profans en la decoraci\u00f3 palatina catalana dels segles XIII i XIV<\/em>, MNAC 2014). He also participated in the III Romanesque Conference organized by the British Archaeological Association (2014) with the conference <em>An Anglo-Norman at Terrassa? Augustinian Canons and Thomas Becket at the End of the 12th century. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he has published several articles in academic journals such as\u00a0 <em>Iconographica, <\/em><em>Ad Limina<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Codex Aquilarensis<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em><em> Cahiers de Saint-Michel de Cuxa<\/em>, etc. He is member of the scientific committee of <em>Romanico<\/em>. Moreover, he is editor of\u00a0<em>Porticvm, Revista d\u2019Estudis Medievals<\/em>, a journal for young researchers in medieval art and history.<\/p>\n<p>He is general coordinator of this Research Project of the MICINN \u201cArtistas, Patronos y P\u00fablico.
