He received his \u201chabilitation\u201d to the rank of Full Professor (Catedr\u00e1tico) both from the AQV (Agency for the Quality of the Catalan Universitary System) in 2013 and from the ANECA (Nacional Agency for the Evaluation of the Quality and Acreditation) in 2015. Previously, he has been Associate Professor (with tenure) at the <em>Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/em>since since February 2010. Before, he had been Head Curator of the Romanesque Collection of the <em>Museu Nacional d\u2019Art de Catalunya<\/em> (MNAC) (Barcelona) (2005-2010) and Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (1997), where he developed his academic career between 1994 and 2005.\u00a0 He has increased his training enjoying several grants and stays in prestigious research centres as the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (1987-1988), the Centre d\u2019\u00c9tudes Superi\u00e9ures de Civilisation M\u00e9di\u00e9vale of the Universit\u00e9 de Poitiers (1989) and the II Universit\u00e0 di Roma-Tor Vergata (1989-1991).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"element element-textarea first last\" style=\"display: inline !important;\">\n<p>He has been internationally acknowledged as Fellow of the <em>Japan Society for the Promotion of Science<\/em>, Fellowship Program for Research in Japan (Short-Term) (1-15 september 2012) invited by the Nagasaki Junshi Catholic University, as well as Visiting Professor del Department of History of Art of the Univeristy of Pennsylvania (EE.UU) (28 october-8 november 2012). He has recently been <em>Samuel H. Kress Senior Fellow <\/em>in the <em>Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts<\/em> (CASVA) de la National Gallery de Washington (EE.UU) (september 2017-may 2018).<\/p>\n<p>He is Ph. D at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, with Special Doctorate Award (1993). He is mainly a specialist in Romanesque Art and Pligrimage Studies, especially on iconographical themes, Ancient and Folk survivances . His current researches are focused on the origin, development and function of the Romanesque Portals as well as on some questions related to the Catalan Romanesque Painting. The role of the artists and their interaction with the patrons as well as the functions of their media (sculpture, panel painting, mural painting) are as well some of his topics. However, in the last years he has shifted to the fields of the Byzantine and Crusader Art in order to analyze some issues related to the artistic exchange in the Medieval Mediterranean and the making of intercultural identities.<\/p>\n<p>He is author (\/edithor) of the books: <em>El calendario medieval hispano. The story of Diego Gelm\u00edrez<\/em>, organized by Xacobeo-Xunta de Galicia at Paris, Vatican City and Santiago de Compostela.<\/p>\n<p>He was Deputy President of AISAME (Associazione Italiana degli Storici dell\u2019Arte Medievale), which organized every year an International Congress on Medieval Art at Parma (Italy); and Associate of the Board of Directors of ICMA (International Center of Medieval Art) (2007-2011), sited in The Cloisters of The Metropolitan Museum, New York, USA. He is currently member of the International Committee of Experts of the Way of Saint James in the Xacobeo (Xunta de Galicia), which has recently organized its VIII International Congress of <em>Jamesian<\/em> Studies at Compostela; as well as member of the Scientific Committee for the Restoration of the <em>P\u00f3rtico de la Gloria<\/em> developed into the project <em>Catedral<\/em> by the Fundation Pedro Barri\u00e9 de la Maza (2009-2012). He is also member of the <em>British Archaeological Association<\/em> and <em>Associ\u00e9 correspondant \u00e9tranger<\/em> of the \u00a0Soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0 Nationale des Antiquaires de France, sited in the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre.<\/p>\n<p>During 2012-2015 he was the Director of the Research Project financed by the MICINN \u201cArtistas, Patronos y P\u00fablico.
